“I’m Told Two Clubs Approached…” Romano Makes Surprise Claim About 23M Defender Following Arsenal Announcement

Arsenal centre-back Gabriel was the subject of interest from two teams during the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Brazilian has recently signed a new contract with the Gunners that will keep him at the Emirates until 2027 but Romano claims Juventus and another team did make enquiries about the player’s availability:

“I’m told two clubs approached Gabriel Magalhaes’ agents in July, and Juventus were one of them for sure. Arsenal decided to keep him as key player for present and future.”

Gabriel did actually have three years left on the deal that he signed when he first moved from Lille for £23m in 2020, but it appears Mikel Arteta’s side were keen for the defender to recommit his future to the club, following the interest from abroad.

The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the starting lineup since he first arrived in England, with Arteta keen to have a left-footed centre-half in his team at all times. He has only failed to start one game in all competitions this season.

There have been some rumours that Arsenal could bring in some competition for Gabriel’s place in January but there is no doubt about his position as a regular starter.
