Arsenal Targeting Cut Price January Deal For Bundesliga Defender With Arteta Wanting ‘Competition’ For Gabriel

Arsenal are weighing up a potential move for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to provide “competition” for Gabriel who is currently the only left-footed centre-back in the first-team squad, following the departure of Pablo Mari on loan to Monza in the summer.

They pursued a number of targets before the transfer window closed last month, including Lisandro Martinez who ended up moving to Manchester United, but they were unable to bring in anyone to fill the position.

It seems that they will revive their attempts in January, with Ndicka said to be among the options being considered at the moment. His contract at Frankfurt expires in June and it’s expected that the Bundesliga club will listen to offers for the 23-year-old in the New Year to prevent him from leaving for nothing at the end of the season.
