Defender Discusses Plans To Leave Arsenal And Where He Could End Up Playing

Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has confirmed he is eyeing a move to the Far East or the United States when his contract expires at the Gunners.

The Greek international signed a three-year deal when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, but the centre-back is already planning his future.

Sokratis is in his thirties, and he will be 33 when he reaches the end of his current contract at the Emirates. He says he would like to play further afield as his career winds down:

“In the summer I will be 31, I have two years of contract with Arsenal, then I would like to play in the US or in Asia.”

Of course, much will depend on how he performs at Arsenal over the next two and a half seasons.

The centre-half was very good in the North London derby against Tottenham at the weekend, keeping Harry Kane very quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

Still, despite his best efforts, the Gunners’ defence remains very shaky, having conceded 39 goals in 29 league games so far this campaign.

Sokratis will be hoping for some better centre-back partners to help him keep more clean sheets in the future.
