Ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson says he expects his former club to secure the three points when they play Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson says the Cherries won’t be an easy opponent, but he is predicting the Gunners to come out on top at the Emirates:
“Bournemouth will cause problems with Dominic Solanke up front. They’ve looked good in recent weeks, but Arsenal are something else and I can’t see anything but a home win.”
“I doubt Mikel Arteta will change his starting XI between now and the rest of the season – they have to stick to their guns and see where it takes them in the title race.”
Merson has predicted a 3-1 victory for Mikel Arteta’s side, as they look to keep their title challenge on track heading into the final two games.
Merson’s warning about the danger that Bournemouth pose is spot on
Andoni Iraola’s team have been in great form since the beginning of March. During that time, they have won six, drawn twice and lost only two games. One of those draws was at Old Trafford against Manchester United.
They have also scored 20 goals across those 10 fixtures, with Dominic Solanke having hit the back of the net 4 times.
Arsenal have to keep the pressure on City
With their title rivals playing Wolves in the evening kickoff on Saturday, it means that the Gunners can go four points clear with a win over the Cherries.
Arteta’s men must keep asking questions of City over the next few weeks. Of course, the title is out of their hands but they need to focus on finishing the season without dropping any more points to give themselves the best possible chance. It may still not be enough but the team have to make sure they give it their best shot.
