“Not In Arsenal’s List” – Romano Dismisses Reports That Gunners Could Hijack Spurs’s Move For Bundesliga Star

Arsenal are not interested in signing Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

FootballTransfers.com had reported that the Gunners were scouting the Dutchman, but Romano has made it clear that only Tottenham are pursuing the player:

Van de Ven has been linked with Arsenal before. It was claimed back in March that Mikel Arteta’s side were monitoring the 22-year-old, along with Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona, Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma.

However, it appears that the Gunners won’t try to hijack Spurs’s move for the centre-back by making a formal bid of their own.

Arsenal have their eyes on other defenders

Van de Ven’s fellow countryman, Ajax’s Jurrien Timber, is the primary objective for the London club currently. They are still waiting to hear back on their last offer for the defender but everything points towards the deal being completed soon.

Whether Timber will be the only defender arriving at the Emirates this summer, it is not known. Reports in the Spanish media on Tuesday also linked the Gunners with a bid for Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio.

Like van der Ven, the Portuguese defender is left-footed, so it could well be the case that Arteta does want to strengthen his options at the back further, but on the opposite side to Timber.

Along with the news that the club are weighing up an offer for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, it seems as if Arsenal are far from done in the transfer market this summer.
