Journalist Believes Arsenal Will Consider Approach For £60M Midfield Colossus Who “Could Be Sold This Month”

Arsenal will be in the mix to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana if the Toffees are forced to sell the Belgian in January, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

Multiple reports have linked the Gunners with the 6ft 4 midfielder over the past few months and Crooks says a transfer to the Emirates can’t be ruled out:

“And the other player to keep an eye on with Arsenal is Amadou Onana at Everton, who we know Chelsea were looking at previously. And with Everton’s financial predicament, there is a possibility that he could be sold this month.”

Onana has been in good form this season so, even if Everton do decide to sell, they will not let him leave for a low price.

It is believed that the 22-year-old may cost anything between £50m and £60m, which may be beyond what Arsenal can afford to pay.

Arteta does want to sign a new midfielder

The Gunners have been linked with a number of different central midfield players in recent weeks, with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Fulham’s Joao Palhinha among those that have been mentioned as potential targets.

However, there could be major issues pursuing any of those names, with their clubs not interested in selling or, at the very least, looking to hold out for very high transfer fees.

The difference with Onana is that he would not only be cheaper but it appears Everton are open to a sale.

£60m could still be too much for Arsenal

Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, Mikel Arteta’s side may still have to raise funds in order to pursue a player like Onana. The likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson, Aaron Ramsdale, Thomas Partey and even Eddie Nketiah have been linked with moves away from the club.

If they do offload one or two of those mentioned in January, it could help get a deal over the line for Onana this month.
