Romano Claims Talks Between Arsenal And £50M Defender Are Set To Take Place In The “Next” Few Days

Arsenal are expected to accelerate negotiations with Ben White over a new contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Writing in his Daily Briefing Substack column, Romano said that talks between the Gunners and the player are going in the right direction, with everyone anticipating a positive conclusion to discussions:

“Contacts between Arsenal and Ben White over a new deal continue. I’m told the conversation is going very well. They will keep negotiating and talk in the next days (and) weeks. But it’s getting closer.”

White’s contract expires in 2026, having signed a 5-year deal when he moved to the Emirates from Brighton for £50m in the summer of 2021.

However, it appears that the Gunners want to reward him for his good form, as well as to ensure that he is tied down for the long term.

White has lost his place in the starting eleven

The 26-year-old has not started Arsenal’s last three matches, with Takehiro Tomiyasu having been favoured by manager Mikel Arteta.

However, the Japanese international did suffer a calf injury against Wolves at the weekend so there is a possibility that White will be recalled for the game versus Luton Town on Tuesday evening.

Arsenal have tied down a number of first team players to new contracts

Across the last twelve months, the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and William Saliba have all signed fresh contracts.

With White (and potentially Tomiyasu) looking likely to put pen to paper as well, sporting director Edu has managed to retain the core of a very, impressive young team.

Having also added the likes of David Raya, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz to the ranks since last summer, this squad seems poised to stay together for many more years to come.
