Arteta Suggests What Points Total Arsenal “Might Have To” Reach To Win The Title This Season

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta claims his team “might have to win every game” if they want to finish top of the table.

Ahead of Monday night’s game against Sheffield United, the Gunners sit on 58 points after 26 matches and, asked about his thoughts on what total would be needed to win the Premier League title, Arteta replied:

“The demands, you might have to win every game. There are a lot of games and we are all going to have crazy schedules and this league might be different to last season. Anything under 90 points I think would be very difficult.”

While it seems Arteta believes that 90 points is the bare minimum that his team will need, it appears that 94 points (the number they would get if they secure victory in their last 12 matches) is what he is aiming to achieve.

Do Arsenal have a good chance of winning “every game”?

If we look at the teams that the Gunners have to face in the run-in, Arteta’s target does seem to be a tall order. They have away games against Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United before the end of May.

They will also take on Chelsea and Aston Villa at the Emirates, but the other 7 matches look winnable on paper. They face Brentford, relegation-threatened Luton Town, Everton and Bournemouth on their own turf, with away fixtures against Sheffield United, Brighton and Wolves.

City and Liverpool could take points off each other

Arsenal’s two title rivals play one another at Anfield next Sunday and the best result for the Gunners would probably be a draw. As long as they beat the Blades, Mikel Arteta’s side could actually go top of the table with a victory over Brentford on Saturday evening.

Of course, supporters won’t want to get too far ahead of themselves. As Arteta says, there are still a lot of matches to play between now and the end of the campaign.
