Arsenal Handed Boost As Agent Of Argentine Star Confirms Likely Summer Transfer

The agent of Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico has revealed that the Argentinian international has turned down a contract to stay at the Dutch club.

Ricardo Schleper confirmed that the defender is seeking to leave in the summer transfer window as he looks to make the next step in his career:

“Ajax made an economic offer to match what the clubs claiming to Nicolas could afford, but it was not accepted because it is time to take a leap.”

“Let’s see what happens in the market. Nico has an enormous virtue that is his professionalism, his entire discipline. This, sooner or later, takes you to the place you want.”

Tagliafico has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid in recent months after an excellent spell of form with Ajax.

This campaign, the 26-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competitions for his team, scoring five goals and contributing five assists.

Tagliafico’s current deal expires in 2022 so Ajax will command a significant fee for the fullback, especially with interest in the player said to be high.

The Gunners are likely seeking a replacement for Nacho Monreal. The Spaniard’s contract expires in June and the left-back has been touted as a potential transfer target for Barcelona to be Jordi Alba’s understudy.
