Wright Reveals The Trick That Arsenal Star Used Against Bournemouth That Has Got Everyone Talking

Some are calling it the ‘Ozil Chop’ while others have simply called it the ‘Ozil’ but the Arsenal star’s opening goal against Bournemouth last night has certainly got pundits and fans alike talking.

The German’s goal in the 5-1 win over the Cherries initially looked like a chip over Artur Boruc, but he in fact deliberately hit the ball into the ground to fool the keeper.

Gunners legend Ian Wright has seen Ozil use the trick before, and he was full of praise for the 30-year-old’s skill:

“He kicks down on to the ball. He bounces it on purpose. He did it against Huddersfield and he kicked down on to it against Bournemouth. Instead of chipping it over a keeper he bounces it over him.”

Ozil actually gave the game away that it was deliberate during the celebration of the goal, with the German gesturing with his foot that he hit the ball down into the turf.

Whether it will inspire other players to use the same technique, we will have to wait and see. Certainly, there will be a few amateurs in Sunday league games trying it out.
