Wilshere Faces Another Huge Setback

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered yet another huge injury setback, the latest being a hairline fracture to his right ankle.

The Englishman could face up to six to eight weeks out of action, and it serves as another huge disappointment for the 23-year-old, who has sustained far too many serious injuries in the little time he’s spent at the top of his game. The central midfielder missed five months of last season after injuring his left ankle, the injury required two operations and he only returned for the Gunners’ final six games of the campaign. This is added to a flurry of other injuries that has hampered his career.

Wilshere was injured by a heavy tackle in training on Saturday, a day before Sunday’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Community Shield. He will not require surgery on the small bone crack, but is expected to miss up to two months of the season.

The injury will also effect England as they face both San Marino and Switzerland in next months European Championship qualifiers.

Wilshere’s career has been plagued with injury problems, particularly in his ankles. Both ankles have required surgery since he first sustained a stress fracture in his right ankle during pre-season in 2011 and was ruled out for 15 months.

There’s no doubt his career is yet to take a steady turn, with him yet to have a full season without troubles. It’s a real shame the 23-year-old’s career looks to be constantly put on hold, but we’re hopeful Jack can put his injury problems behind him before long.
