Will Oxlade-Chamberlain Be Up For Sale?

Will Oxlade-Chamberlain Be Up For Sale?

Arsenal will have to start negotiations soone enough for Oxlade-Chamberlain who is going to go into his last two years of contract. In his 149 appearances for the Gunners, the winger only scored 14 times and provided 21 assists which is not that great considering he has similar numbers in just 42 games played for Southampton. On the other hand, Oxlade-Chamberlain was used in various positions and has had a hard time finding his place in Wenger’s starting line-up. Injury has also played a big part in this player’s career who despite being so young, has managed to spend a total of almost one year in the infirmary.

According to Squawka, if Arsenal were to sell Oxlade-Chamberlain, they would ask for around £12 million which means he would get instant offers. The problem is that he is definitely worth more than that. He is probably one of the most underrated players out there as many forget how young he is. This guy came from Southampton to Arsenal in 2011 and was never sent on loan which says a lot about him. He was called in to represent England and he is hopefully going to continue down the same path.

Looking at what the market has to offer, there`s really no reason to sell this winger who is actually better suited as a midfielder. With him against Barcelona, Arsenal had a lot more confidence especially when it comes to the defense. Theres no player in Wenger’s lot right now who could handle both phases of the game like the England international does. Gnabry may have the same profile but he is not on the same level as Oxlade-Chamberlain yet.

There’s also a precedent at the Emirates if you look into how big of a part injury plays during contract negotiations. Bottom line is that, Wenger kept Diaby around for so long, extended Walcott’s contract and is about to extend Wilshere’s deal as well. These players have an endless history of injuries, injuries that kept them from playing for a long time. If Oxlade-Chamberlain is given the same chance, he will surely prove how important he is for the team and Wenger is way to smart to give up on a talent of his kind and is wise to be patient with the talent of the level of the Ox and therefore we can’t imagine the player being put up for sale despite his unfortunate run of injuries.
