‘Why?’ – fans question potential move for West Brom star

Arsenal are one of two clubs who have made contact with West Brom over the potential transfer of defender Jonny Evans, reports BBC Sport.

Manchester City have also touched base with the Baggies, after having failed to land the Northern Irishman during the summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be extremely keen on the 30-year-old former Premier League winner as he looks to bolster his defensive options going into the second half of the season.

Arsenal have already completed the signing of greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos this month, but with the youngster expected to go out on-loan, Wenger is keen to add further reinforcements.

Evans, who is valued at around £25 million by his current club, has made over 300 Premier League appearances – nearly 200 of those with former club Manchester United, where he won three Premier League titles between 2006 and 2015.

Any deal for Evans could see Mathieu Debuchy go in the opposite direction, with the Frenchman looking for regular first team football after a frustrating few years at The Emirates.

Evans still has 18 months remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns and has told the club he has no interest in signing a new deal.

Arsenal fans aren’t impressed with the links with the former United man however …
