Who Will Arsene Buy In January?

The long-serving Arsenal manager spoke to the press last week where he confessed that he will be looking to bring in a couple of players in the upcoming transfer window. This news has delighted everyone involved with the club, and they are already making guesses as to who would join next.

What the fans are willing to believe more than ever before is that it could be a big money transfer, much like the way Wenger spent £42.4 million on Mesut Ozil in the summer. His decision to spend that kind of money on a player has given belief to everyone that the Frenchman is not shy of splashing the cash, provided that the player is pure quality.

What Wenger did not reveal though is the specific footballer he is targeting, which has left the name of the player up for speculation. Many explanations are being drawn up and a shortlist is being formed by the press. Arsenal’s long-standing need of a second striker and the over-reliance on Olivier Giroud points towards a possible signing of a forward in January.

Arsenal’s failed pursuit of Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney suggests that they could possibly reignite their interest in either one of them. Also, there has been talk of defender Bacary Sagna’s future at the club; and with only Carl Jenkinson as the other right-back, a new defender could also possibly arrive.

The current situation of Thomas Vermaelen at the Emirates Stadium is still far from ideal, and the Belgian has already admitted that he could be on the move if that’s what it takes for him to earn playing time. Wenger could also insulate himself from Vermaelen’s loss by lining up yet another center-back in January.

These are a few key areas which could need immediate assessment in terms of personnel, and Metro report that Wenger would very well look into strengthening them in the upcoming window. But the question is, which one is top priority? And who will Wenger bring in? Can he get more than one player, or maybe even strengthen all the three areas?
