Wenger Still Looking For Bargains Like Gareth Barry

Gareth Barry was recently linked to Arsenal in what seems to be Wenger’s attempt to bring in an experienced player to use just in case of any midfield emergency. The 33 year old who is now on vacation will have to choose between Everton and the Gunners who expressed their interest in the former England international. According to talkSPORT, Wenger is willing to match the Toffees current salary offer to Barry which is in the £60.000 per week range.

Barry is going to start negotiations after he returns from his vacation. He just ended his deal with Manchester City where he spent 5 years in which he made 132 Premier League appearances. The midfielder spent all of his career in the UK managing to check more than 400 games for Aston Villa where he spent 11 years.

Arsenal might be in a disadvantage though as Everton are set to offer Barry a 2 year deal which is never going to happen on Emirates. Wenger is not going to offer more than a year’s worth of contract just as he did with Sagna. The Frenchman left not because of the Gunners’ refusal to increase his salary but also because of their refusal to extend his deal for more than a year. With this policy currently being implemented on Emirates, the 33 year old midfielder might be keen on continuing playing for Everton where he spent his last year on loan.
