Wenger Pessimistic About New Signings

After being one of the most talked about clubs this entire month of January, it turns out that Arsenal might after all end up not buying anyone in the remaining week of this transfer window. The North Londoners have been linked with a plethora of players from across the length and breadth of Europe, the most prominent of them being Schalke’s Julian Draxler.

The Gunners fans were hopeful that Wenger was going shopping when he was snapped at the London airport couple of days ago; and indeed gave them further hope of new signings when he was seen watching Barcelona play against Celta Vigo. However, the long serving Frenchman has created an anti-climax of sorts when he claimed that he was indeed just window shopping, and that he sees it very difficult for the English league leaders to welcome in a new face before the transfer window slams shut, as reported by ESPNFC.

He faced the media ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup game against Coventry City on Friday night and was asked about the possibility of Draxler arriving at the Emirates Stadium in the coming week, the question which was met with a resounding ‘no’ in reply. He went further and added, “It looks very unlikely,”

“We are at the 23rd of January today and we are not close to doing anything. I feel a bit guilty going to a press conference during the transfer window and having no one to announce, but I don’t want to lie.”

Does one believe what Wenger is saying, or does he have a surprise planned, much like the way he had with Mesut Ozil?
