Wenger Looking To Strengthen Midfield

According to talkSPORT, Arsene Wenger is keen on spending big in the summer transfer window after witnessing his side fall by the wayside as the season progressed, and is ready to make a move for Lille midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

Arsenal are ending the season on a high, but are aware of what could have been a title winning season for the club. The campaign began in spectacular fashion, but slowly turned into a disappointment with time. As has been the case in recent seasons, Arsenal suffered injuries to key players at vital times, and could not play a consistent starting eleven for any competition. The injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the start of the season ruled him out until Christmas time, and Theo Walcott’s injury in January ruled him out of the rest of the season. The medical staff were kept busy as Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere both sustained nasty injuries, leaving the Gunners to drop out of both the UEFA Champions League, and the Premier League title race.

Gueye’s talent was discovered in the Lille youth academy, and the former Senegal international has made 91 appearances for the French club, scoring one goal in his four year spell at the club. The 24-year old could prove to be a utility player for Wenger, who has at times, fallen short of midfielders.
