Wenger Challenges Lacazette

Arsene Wenger has challenged new club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette to continue the consistency he had in front of goal for Lyon and emulate it at Arsenal in the Premier League.

The France international scored 28 goals Ligue 1 last season, scoring 37 goals in all competitions. The forward boasts the best conversion rate of any player in Europe’s top 5 leagues, and Wenger hopes his new no.9 will continue his fine goalscoring form against Leicester on the opening day of the season.

“In France he scored a goal every 80 minutes. Will he transfer that into the Premier League?” said Wenger on Sky Sports.

“That’s the target. He has to show he can do that.”

Wenger was also full of praise for new left-back Sead Kolasinac, a player who he believes will adapt fast to life in English football.

Signing from Schalke on a free transfer, Kolasinac scored Arsenal’s equaliser in the Community Shield victory over Chelsea last Sunday, and Wenger believes the defender has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League.

“Kolasinac is a versatile player,” Wenger added. “He can play on the left side but also in central defence.”

“I believe he has the power, the attitude and the desire to integrate very quickly into the Premier League.”

The duo of Lacazette and Kolasinac have been the only signings that Arsenal have made so far, and whilst keeping tight-lipped about the club’s transfer dealings, Wenger refused to rule out a further addition arriving at the Emirates.

“We are open to an exceptional player,” he said. “However, just to remind you we have 33 players and they are all good players.

“That’s unmanageable so to bring one more player in for the sake of it would be stupid, but if we find an exceptional one, we will do it.”
