Wenger admits Sanchez and Ozil could leave in January

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is possible stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil could leave the club in the January with their contracts set to expire next summer.

The duo have had their futures in doubt for some time as they look unlikely to sign extensions to their current deals with the club, and although Wenger would like the pair to continue at the Emirates it is looking increasingly likely that they will exit the Gunners.

Despite remaining hopeful that they will renew their contracts at the club, Wenger admits that there is a possibility that the German and Chilean will leave the club in January in order for Arsenal to recoup some sort of transfer fee.

Asked if there was a deadline for the pair to sign contract extensions, Wenger said: “No, not at the moment.”

And when asked if Arsenal could sell them in January, Wenger added: “Once you are in our kind of situation, we have envisaged every solution yes.”

“It’s possible.”

Wenger did admit that Ozil would like to stay in the Premier League, but made no assurances that it would be with Arsenal.

“That is my understanding, yes.” Wenger said.

“I have always said that the fact we didn’t find an agreement last year doesn’t mean the player will necessarily leave.”

“Both players looked happy here and overall I hope the situation can be turned around.”

“At the moment we are not close enough to announce anything.”

Of course everyone involved at Arsenal would love to see Sanchez and Ozil sign new deals, but the saga seems to be dragging on for too long now. Surely there should be a conclusion soon and if they leave then Wenger should have identified his replacements.
