Vermaelen Could Follow In Van Persie’s Footsteps

With Nemanja Vidic leaving for Inter during the summer, Man. United seem to have directed their attention towards Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen. The 28 year old defender who has lost his spot in Wenger’s first eleven for a while now, might consider an offer from Arsenal’s Premier League rivals, as his future at the Emirates looks rather uncertain. After being strongly linked to Barcelona during the summer and with rumors of his departure during the winter transfer window, Moyes looks keen on reaching out to the Gunners former captain.

According to Metro, Vermaelen who came to London in 2009, could cost as much as £12million which would not be a problem for United considering their intention to massively invest in important transfers over the summer. Moyes will also be able to match if not increase the Belgian’s salary who made his last appearance for Arsenal during the FA clash against Everton.

Vermaelen who repeatedly insisted he is 100% dedicated to his club could consider moving especially because of the few chances he has been given to perform this season. On the other hand, signing a deal with Manchester could be a last resort.

Van Persie who joined Arsenal’s rivals in 2012 seems utterly unhappy with Moyes’s managerial techniques and hinted towards the possibility of him leaving despite being under contract for two more years. The former Gunners’ disappointment with his current situation could influence the Belgian international’s decision who might just want to avoid getting in the same position as his former Arsenal captain.
