Unsettled Martinez Linked To Arsenal

Javi Martinez’s unsettled spell at Bayern Munich has strengthened rumours that the Spaniard will be looking to move away from the Allianz Arena, and a report in talkSPORT suggests Arsenal will be strong contenders for him.

Arsenal will have want to leverage the success they had in the first half of the season and bring in players who can establish their place in the squad. Youngsters like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are talented, but have not developed to a level where they can play every week and perform consistently.

Martinez began his career in native Spain where he represented Osasuna at youth and senior levels. He then moved to Atletic Bilbao, where he made 201 league appearances and was a regular member of the first team. The big move to Bayern came in 2012, and the midfielder is still finding his feet under new manager Pep Guardiola.

The only factor that could come in Arsenal’s way is the transfer fee, as even though the board will loosen the purse strings to offer Arsene Wenger some freedom in the market, they would want to spread the kitty over many players rather than spend the whole sum on one player. Martinez was bought by Munich in the region of £30 million, and the German side would not listen to offers below that amount.
