United Still In Title Race – Wenger

Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down from his post as Manchester United manager at the end of last season after being in charge for over quarter of a century. That marked the end of an era, and the Red Devils brought in David Moyes as his replacement. As a new chapter and new generation ushered in at Old Trafford, the fans did not quite know what to expect.

However, what they have endured this season has been nothing short of a nightmare. The league champions are currently in 8th place in the table, and have only managed to win 3 games out of the opening 8 fixtures. The United strikers which include the quartet of Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez were regarded as the best in the country last season. Those same strikers are struggling to find the goals this season.

The frailties were once again visible as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Southampton at home – this being one of the many disappointing results this season for United. It has been a forgettable league campaign for them so far and with just 8 rounds of fixtures gone, many are already ruling them out of the title race.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger however has warned that it would be foolish to rule the champions out just yet, despite his team leading the table by 2 points and already having a handsome 10 point cushion over their rivals.

When asked about United, ESPNFC report Wenger as saying, “It is too early. They are not out of the title race,”

“We are only two points in front of all the others.”

“Are Man United out of the title race? No, but of course 10 points starts to be a little gap.”

Wenger continued: “If you have the choice, you want to be in the race at the top, but you cannot rule Man United out today. They have big players, big experience and they are a big club.”

“It (points advantage) is three games basically, that is very quick in our league.”

Do you think he is right in still seeing United as a threat? Or have they already gifted away the title?
