While the absence of William Saliba has often been blamed for the team’s problems at the back, it is the form of the Ghanaian international that needs to be more closely scrutinised.
Partey’s performances began to dip after the last international break, and it is no coincidence that he sustained a minor injury whilst away with his country.
The midfielder did play in the 4-1 win over Leeds directly after the resumption of the Premier League in early April but his subsequent displays have been less than convincing. The Gunners have only kept one clean sheet since, and that was when Partey was benched versus Newcastle.
