Szszesny’s Offensive Gesture Caught On Camera But Unlikey To Be Punished

According to The Guardian, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will not be punished after he was seen making an obscene gesture after the referee decided to send off the Poland international for a challenge on Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben.

The Gunners faced Bayern in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, and Szczesny’s red card in the 37th minute of the game effectively put the Germans on the front foot. The goalkeeper was caught on cameras making an offensive gesture as he made his way to the tunnel. However, as it turns out, the referee’s standard match report did not report the incident, and this could save the player from receiving a further ban.

Arsenal face an uphill task of getting back in the tie after two away goals to Bayern, who host the Gunners in the second leg on March 11th. The Allianz Arena will pose a tough proposition for Wenger, who will most certainly bring Olivier Giroud back into the starting lineup. Lukasz Fabianski will remain in goal for the second leg, and will have to keep a clean sheet to give his team the best possible chance to go through.
