Szczesny Enters Roma Talks

Arsenal and Roma are in talks over a possible loan deal for Wojciech Szczesny. The Polish international has lost his place as Arsenal’s No 1 keeper following David Ospina’s inspiring form last season. Now, with the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea, Szczesny has fallen even further down the pecking order and looks certain to depart the club this summer.

Arsene Wenger admitted he would like to keep hold of the player, but did hint that one of Ospina or Szczeny could leave the Emirates. Now it seems Szczesny is set to leave, and is said to be in negotiations with Roma over a potential loan move.

The 25-year-old, who began his Arsenal career as a teenager, has since gone on to make almost 200 appearances for the north London club. However, last season the goalkeeper endured a difficult time between the sticks and found himself under scrutiny for various errors. He was also under the spotlight for being caught smoking.

Szczesny’s Arsenal contract runs for three more years, and after the clubs FA Cup final win in May, in which Szczesny started – he expressed his desire to stay.

The Poland international is understood to have already agreed personal terms with Roma, having previously fuelled speculation that the move was on by following the Serie A side on Instagram. It is reported that a one-year loan deal has been struck between the two clubs, but there is no indication that the deal includes a buyout option, which means that Szczesny will return to Arsenal next summer.
