Szczesny Could Face Additional Punishment

Szczesny could be held accountable for more than just a red card as his post sending-off hand gestures may force UEFA to slap Arsenal’s goalkeeper with a triple punishment. After being sent off by the referee due to a foul on Arjen Robben, the 23 year old was caught making some inappropriate hand gestures just before entering the tunnel. His behavior was clearly an expression of his disappointment with the decision which left Arsenal one man short for the rest of the game.

According to ESPNFC, broadcasters apologized for showing Szczesny’s reaction which may cause him a lot more trouble than he expected. It is still uncertain towards whom his actions were aimed at but one thing is for sure, UEFA will address it. The Gunners had to deal with a similar situation earlier this season when Wilshere was also caught on camera while making offensive gestures during the game against Manchester City.

Hopefully the disciplinary commission will find nothing to punish him for, as most think the Polish international gestured towards Arsenal’s staff members in order to point out the fact that Robben faked contact so as to get a penalty from the referee.

If UEFA finds Szczesny guilty he might follow in Wilshere’s footsteps who received a two match ban from the FA. This could mean Arsenal’s goalkeeper could miss the next three fixtures adding him to other important absentees like Gibbs, Ramsey and Walcott.
