Former Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos says he believes the Gunners are pursuing both Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

The ex-Gunners star feels that, out of the two, the Serie A centre-half would be the best buy for Mikel Arteta’s side:

“I know they are interested in Koulibaly and Umtiti. I would take one of the two to return to the top. The favourite? I say KK.”

It’s highly unlikely that Arsenal will have the funds to sign either Umtiti or Koulibaly this summer, despite Senderos’s comments.

Head of Football Raul Sanllehi has reportedly suggested that transfers will not be a priority when the window reopens. On top of that, the cost of signing the two defenders would be prohibitive.

Napoli are said to be demanding around €100m (£87m) for Koulibaly, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool also having been linked with the player.

Umtiti may cost around half that amount, with Barca believed to be keen to sell for around €50m (£44m) but it would be a major surprise if Arsenal made a bid for either defender.
