Romano Provides Pessimistic Update On Arsenal’s Attempts To Sign 45M Rated La Liga Star

The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal have yet to make a breakthrough in their attempts to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Earlier this week, it was claimed that the Ghanaian international was keen on a switch to the Emirates, with the London club working on a number of possible ways to free up the funds necessary for the deal to go ahead.

However, Romano took to Twitter yesterday to confirm that there have been no major developments, with the Gunners yet to trigger Partey’s €50m (£45m) release clause:

Arsenal are currently working on selling or loaning out seven first-team players in Lucas Torreira, Sokratis, Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac, Calum Chambers, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding.

If they do find buyers for most of these stars, a bid could well be tabled for Partey before the transfer window closes, but that seems quite a distant prospect at the moment.
