REPORT: Arsenal ‘Ready To Battle’ Two PL Rivals For Eredivisie Star Who Chelsea Failed To Sign Last Summer

Arsenal are “ready to battle” Liverpool and Newcastle for Ajax holding midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to TMW.

The Italian website claim that all three teams are “admirers” of the Mexican international, with offers likely to be made at the end of the season.

Alvarez was the subject of a £43m bid from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but Ajax turned down the offer as they felt they had no time to find a replacement.

Since then, the 23-year-old has struggled with his form, suggesting that he may have had his head turned by interest from the Premier League.

After signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, it’s unlikely that Chelsea will revive their pursuit of Alvarez, but it seems the Gunners are pretty keen on the player.

Although Mikel Arteta’s side did sign Jorginho last month, he is not a direct replacement for Thomas Partey and Alvarez is likely being eyed to take some of the weight off the Ghanaian.
