Arsenal have “shown great interest” in signing Barcelona winger Ilias Akhomach, according to Sport.
The Catalan publication claims that Leeds were in “advanced” negotiations to sign the Spain Under 19 captain but the departures of sporting director Victor Orta and manager Javi Gracia have stopped the deal in its tracks.
It is believed that the Gunners, along with Sevilla and AC Milan, were the other teams keen on Akhomach before Leeds became the favourites for the player’s signature, so it now appears one of the three could secure his services.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Sport reports that it is “highly unlikely that he will renew” with Barca, meaning that his agents will now consider the other options on the table.
We shall have to wait and see whether Mikel Arteta’s side end up winning the battle for Akhomach after his move to Leeds collapsed.
