“If I Am Totally Honest…” Ian Wright Says He Has Changed His Opinion On Arsenal’s Player Of The Season

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says captain Martin Odegaard has now got his backing for the club’s player of the year.

The former Gunners striker was initially in William Saliba‘s corner but, following the Frenchman’s injury, and Odegaard’s outstanding form, he feels the Norwegian deserves the accolade:

“I think he has been our player of the season, if I am totally honest. William Saliba was on that track. But he has been injured. Odegaard’s consistency for Arsenal this season has been absolutely tremendous for us.”

Odegaard’s brace against Chelsea on Tuesday night has taken his goal total for the season to 14. It’s a huge improvement on his first eighteen months at the Emirates, when he managed to score just nine.

Of course, the 24-year-old is not just contributing with goals of his own, having also provided eight assists in the Premier League so far this season.

While Odegaard isn’t the most vocal out on the pitch, he does lead by example. He possesses the ability to take up positions in pockets of space and cause no end of problems for opposition defences. His additional goal threat this campaign has also made him, arguably, the club’s most important player, along with Bukayo Saka.
