Liverpool came into the January Transfer Window with plenty of hype. They were linked with world class talents hither and yon, such as World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez and Birmingham-born wonderkid Jude Bellingham.
So, how did the Reds only end up with Cody Gakpo (who has underwhelmed so far)? It’s unclear for now – Liverpool desperately needed an energetic midfielder in January, but they did not sign one.
Overall, 2022/23 looks set to be a disappointing season for Liverpool. At this stage, their only hope of success is in the Champions League – and they play Real Madrid in their next game.
