Ozil Committed To Arsenal

Arsene Wenger says Mesut Ozil is ‘completely committed’ to Arsenal despite speculation linking him with a move to away from the north London club, most recently Besiktas.

A former board member at the Turkish club was quoted claiming that Besiktas had made contact with Ozil’s representatives. But Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger dismissed these reports this morning, saying Ozil was completely committed to Arsenal.

The German international, who is of Turkish descent, is a fan of Turkish club Fenerbache – so the rumour of his move to their rivals Besiktas always did have question marks over it.

The 26-year-old has had a very inconsistent life at Arsenal so far, but more recently his form has picked up.

Wenger also admitted that he is not close to any signings, and won’t sign a player unless they are right for the club.

“I expect (signings) like you, but at the moment we are not close. I listen to everybody, but my job is to make decisions. We want to develop players as well rather than overthinking whether to buy.”

“I am not against buying when it is a plus for your team, (but) if it is just to buy a player at the level of the players that you have to make people happy, I am not ready for that.”

“If it is somebody who brings something that you don’t already have in the squad, then of course you want to do that.”

“The funds are there more than the players who could strengthen the squad, that is a big problem.”

“People know that you have the resources and they want you to buy players from clubs who do not need your resources and who are not necessarily prepared to sell.”
