Owen Names Two Arsenal Starlets Who Could Go On To Score “20 Plus Goals A Season” For The Club

BT Sport pundit Michael Owen has said he wouldn’t be surprised if either Gabriel Martinelli or Eddie Nketiah turn out to be prolific goalscorers for Arsenal.

The former England striker believes the pair could go on to emulate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and become the club’s top scorer:

“You never know, one of those two lads up front could turn into proper players and be like him [Aubameyang] scoring 20-plus goals a season and they’re worth their weight in gold. If you can unearth one of those from your academy, it’s a massive bonus.”

Both players have looked very impressive when given the opportunities in the first team this season. While Martinelli has had to be patient for chances over the last month or so, his 10 goals in 26 appearances is an extremely impressive return considering the Gunners only paid £7m for him in the summer.

Nketiah, meanwhile, has also begun to show he his a threat in front of goal after returning from his loan spell at Leeds back in January.

The 20-year-old has scored three goals in seven appearances since being recalled, and manager Mikel Arteta has put a lot of faith in the player despite him struggling for games in the Championship during the first half the campaign.
