Nicholas Makes Surprise Admission About Rob Holding’s Chances Of Becoming An Arsenal Regular

Former Arsenal player Charlie Nicholas has questioned whether defender Rob Holding is the long term solution for the Gunners’ defensive problems.

Speaking about the club’s weakness at the back, the Sky Sports pundit said that the London club will need to spend in the January transfer window in order to strengthen their defence:

“David Luiz was relatively cheap and, on his day, is the best passer at the back, but him and Sokratis are not a partnership. I don’t think Rob Holding is the answer long-term – I’d like to see another centre-back in January – but if he’s fit, I’d play him.”

Holding is seen by many Arsenal fans as someone who could reinforce the backline if he is given a long run in the team by manager Unai Emery.

The 24-year-old had been sidelined with an ACL injury but he returned to full fitness last month. He has subsequently made appearances against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup as well in the 4-0 win over Standard Liege in the Europa League.

However, he has yet to be given his chance in a league game this season, but Nicholas does not seem to believe he will improve things if he is selected.
