BT Sport pundit Michael Owen is expecting Arsenal to pick up a point when they face Southampton at the Emirates this evening.
The Gunners go into the match having lost their last four league games at home and, while Owen says he rates the Saints highly, he expects Mikel Arteta’s side to avoid a fifth straight defeat:
“Where do we start with Arsenal? The Gunners have lost their last 4 home matches and failed to score in 6 of their last 8. If they were to suffer another defeat here, Mikel Arteta will be under serious pressure… Arsenal simply must avoid defeat and although I am a big fan of Southampton, I think they may have to settle for a point in this one.”
Owen has gone with a 1-1 draw which, considering the form of the two sides, is pretty fair. Southampton may be the favourites in some pundit’s eyes but Arsenal’s players will likely be determined to avoid another loss.
As Owen says, Arteta will be under intense scrutiny due to recent results, and doubts over his management will inevitably increase further if they lose once again tonight. Confidence is undoubtedly very low among the squad at the moment but they have to try and scrap for the three points and hope their fortunes turn around.
