Ex-Gunners midfielder Paul Merson believes the pressure is off Arsenal when they face Tottenham at Wembley this afternoon.
The TV pundit thinks Spurs’s poor performance against Chelsea midweek means the onus is on the home side heading in today’s game:
“I don’t think Tottenham are playing well, and the pressure is off Arsenal going into this. Tottenham have to draw this game otherwise they’re going to be pulled into the top four battle.”
Merson predicts a 2-2 draw for the North London Derby. It is certainly not going to be a cagey affair with both teams having leaked goals recently.
Arsenal have been defensively vulnerable all season, with their frailties on display again despite winning 5-1 against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
However, Tottenham have looked equally fragile in their last two games. They played with a three-man backline against Burnley but lost 2-1 at Turfmoor.
They switched to four at the back for the match at Stamford Bridge but again conceded twice, with both Hugo Lloris and Kieran Trippier looking far from assured.
The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette will be looking to take advantage of those vulnerabilities today.
