Merson Gives His Verdict On Whether Arsenal Will Beat Newcastle

TV pundit Paul Merson is backing Arsenal to turnover Newcastle when they face the Magpies on Monday night.

The ex-Gunners star believes that his former side shouldn’t have any problems in their last eight Premier League fixtures, but Unai Emery’s side inconsistency could be their downfall in the race for the top four:

“Newcastle are a dangerous side; they’ve been really good recently, are hard to beat and have a couple of match-winners in their team. But these are the kind of matches Arsenal finish off.”

“If Liverpool had Arsenal’s remaining fixtures they would win the league, but you just know that Arsenal won’t win all of these games and that’s why they are not a shoo-in for the top four.”

Merson expects Arsenal to come out 3-1 winners on Monday. Their home record does suggest that a comfortable win should be on the cards.

They have dropped just seven points on their own turf this season, with their only loss coming against Manchester City on the opening day of the campaign.

The Gunners have been prolific in front of goal too, with 37 goals in their 16 fixtures at the Emirates, an average of 2.3 goals per game.

With Newcastle being stubborn defensively under the guidance of manager Rafa Benitez, an early goal would certainly prove valuable as they look to collect another three points.
