Rennes have expressed an interest in signing Arsenal centre-half David Luiz, according to reports in the French media.

The Brazilian international is said to be on the list of players the Gunners would be open to selling this summer, despite the defender only signing a new one-year contract back in June.

The London club currently have seven centre-backs in the first-team squad and that could become eight if Gabriel Magalhaes signs on the dotted line. Reports yesterday indicated the Lille player was close to finalising his transfer to the Emirates.

Luiz has, of course, played in France before, having been at Paris Saint-Germain between two spells at Chelsea, but Rennes would certainly be a surprise destination.

The Ligue One side have qualified for the Champions League so they do have some money to spend and they are reportedly targeting the Arsenal centre-half as they look to reinforce their defence.

It remains to be seen whether Luiz would be interested in a move and whether Rennes would be able to afford the player’s wages.
