REPORT: Arsenal Set To Secure Fourth Summer Signing After Winning Battle For £22m Rated Defender

Arsenal have beaten Manchester United and Napoli in the race to sign Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims the Gunners are set to sign the Brazilian for £22m, reinforcing head coach Mikel Arteta’s options at the back.

Gabriel has been deliberating over which club to join for a number of days, with Lille president Gerard Lopez saying a decision on his future was expected in the next week or so. It seems as though the player has now made his choice.

The defender is expected to become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following the free transfers of Willian and Cedric Soares, as well as the agreement to sign Pablo Mari on a permanent basis from Flamengo.

If Gabriel does indeed sign on the dotted line, Arteta will have eight senior centre-backs in his squad, and it is likely that a fair number of them will be offloaded before the close of the transfer window.
