Lawrenson Predicts The Result As Arsenal Take On Chelsea

Mark Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to get a draw when they face Chelsea at the Emirates this evening, despite their woeful form in recent weeks.

The BBC pundit believes the Gunners’ top players are not playing for the shirt, meaning manager Mikel Arteta is having to rely on the youngsters to perform. However, he is also not convinced by Chelsea, who are not consistent enough for his liking.

“Arsenal’s better players this season have been their kids, because some of the older ones do not look like they are playing for Arsenal – I think they are playing for themselves. Having said all of that, I have a feeling the Gunners will get something here. They are on a poor run, but they still have some quality players in their side, and they are going to show it at some point soon.”

“I am not totally convinced by Chelsea either. They were on a really good run until the start of December but I don’t think they are consistent enough to challenge Liverpool for the title. The top four is a realistic target for Frank Lampard’s side though.”

Lawrenson has gone for a 1-1 draw, which is a surprise prediction considering how poorly Arsenal are performing. Goalscoring is a major problem so even getting on the scoresheet tonight could be a challenge, especially as their opponents have tightened up at the back this season.

It must be pointed out, though, that despite winning 3-0 against West Ham on Monday night, Chelsea looked far from convincing and their two recent losses to Everton and Wolves should give the Gunners some hope going into the derby.
