Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could well be the best striker in Europe at the moment. The 30-year-old scored his second goal in as many league games against Burnley yesterday.
It was a superb finish from outside the box, giving opposition keeper Nick Pope no chance of keeping it out, and Keown thinks Aubameyang is simply a quality finisher:
“He is basically saying give me the ball and I’ll give you the goals you need. Look at this [goal] for quality. It’s a beautiful finish. He makes it look so easy. Well, I think he’s as good as any player in Europe right now.”
Aubameyang received praise from Jose Mourinho last week saying his finish against Newcastle was a work of “genius” and the fact that he is so clinical in front of goal will make him a front runner for the Premier League golden boot once again.
The Gabon international scored 22 goals in the league last season and you wouldn’t bet against him surpassing that number this campaign considering his superb start. Fans will be hoping he keeps his form in front of goal when they go to Anfield to face Liverpool next Saturday.
