Jose Mourinho has praised Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his finishing against Newcastle yesterday. The 30-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win at St James’ Park.
The forward coolly lifted the ball over the onrushing Martin Dubravka to put the Gunners into the lead versus the Magpies, and Mourinho complimented the Gabonese international on his ability to make the finish look so easy:
“Simplicity is genius. That control looks simple, but it is not simple – it is genius.”
It was a rare bit of quality in a match which wasn’t the best spectacle. Even so, manager Unai Emery will be delighted to start the campaign with a win away from home.
Arsenal struggled on their travels last season, and supporters will be hoping that the three points against Newcastle will be a sign of better things to come on the road.
The Gunners will face Burnley next at the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime, with the London club looking to make it two wins from two.
