Journalist Names Arsenal Among Six Clubs “Monitoring” Turkish Teenage Sensation After Breakthrough Season

Arsenal are one of a number of teams “monitoring” Fenerbahce attacking midfielder Arda Guler, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.

The reporter, who isn’t always the most reliable of sources, claims that the teenager is also being pursued by Newcastle, Napoli, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax:

Guler has become a regular starter for Fenerbahce this season, having also been handed his first two caps by Turkey at senior level.

The 18-year-old is reportedly valued at around €20m (£17.4m) but it remains to be seen whether the Gunners see him as a key target for the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side are expected to be in the market for a midfielder but, whether they need another no.10, it is debatable. Martin Odegaard is a nailed-on starter, while Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe are essentially his understudies.

Vieira has struggled somewhat during his first year with the Gunners, but he is not expected to be sold. Smith Rowe’s lack of game time has prompted speculation that he could leave so Guler may be someone that the club are looking at just in case the England Under 21 international departs the Emirates.
