Alan Shearer Pays Tribute To Arsenal Ace Who “Ran The Show” Against Newcastle

Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has singled out Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard for praise after the role he played in the 2-0 win over the Magpies on Sunday.

The Norwegian international scored the Gunners’ opening goal at St James’ Park but Shearer was equally impressed with how the attacking midfielder dictated the tempo of the game:

“The best player on the park, Odegaard. He has ran the show. He has controlled the game, at his pace and he has been absolutely magnificent. You can’t give, someone of that ability, that much time to pick his spot [for the first goal] because he will punish you.”

Odegaard was outstanding at the weekend, particularly in the first half, and it is a testament to his growth over the last twelve months that he stepped up to the plate in an extremely difficult game.

The 24-year-old has often been accused of going missing in big matches, particularly away from home, but he seemed determined to make an impact against Newcastle.

With Arsenal desperately needing a victory to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table, Odegaard led his team by example, helping his side to stay in the hunt for the Premier League title.
