Is Ozil Worthy Of The Hype?

Mesut Ozil was heavily criticised for his poor performance in Liverpool’s 5-1 demolition of Arsenal last month. To make matters worse, he then missed a penalty in Arsenal’s crucial Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich.

Arsene Wenger has come to the defence of Ozil in recent weeks saying the £42.4 million signing is just drained due to the physical nature of the English game. He subsequently rested Ozil in their 4-1 win over Sunderland but he failed to make an impact from the bench as Arsenal lost 1-0 to Stoke on Saturday.

According to talkSPORT, former Gunner Paul Davis has sensationally revealed that Ozil was tired after the first 4-5 games of the season. He said, “When he first arrived he really looked as though he was enjoying it and going to take the Premier League by storm.”

He added, “In truth, fourth or fifth game in you could see he was getting way down with pressure or the amount of games and pace of the games that kept coming thick and fast. He needed a break out of it, a rest, to recharge his energies. There’s no doubt he’s a talent, when he first came the other players around him upped their game 20 per cent. I feel the pace and number of games have really hit him, coming from Spain.”

Do you think Ozil can hit another purple patch and re-inspire Arsenal to claim the Premier League title?
