Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu says he is determined to win his position back in the Gunners’ starting eleven.
The Japanese international missed the start of the season with a muscular injury but, since returning to full fitness, he hasn’t managed to displace Ben White, who has been selected regularly at right-back by manager Mikel Arteta. Tomiyasu is not happy about the situation, but he has vowed to work hard in order to regain his spot:
“What is required in this league is quite high and I’m not satisfied. When you look at the players selected as starters in the Premier League games, you will understand what is required to be there. I will work hard in order to get my position back.”
Tomiyasu has suffered a number of injuries since arriving at the Emirates last summer, which certainly haven’t helped him to establish himself as a regular starter.
When he has featured, he has looked very solid defensively but he needs to show that he can stay fit for a lengthy period of time so he can be trusted by Arteta. White has been performing well at right-back, despite being played out of position, so Tomiyasu will have to remain patient for now.
