Ian Wright Makes Claim About Arsenal’s Chances Of Finishing In The Top Four

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes the Gunners are in a good position to take advantage of other teams slipping up in the race to finish fourth.

Mikel Arteta’s side secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Wolves last night, having had to play the last 20 minutes with ten men after Gabriel Martinelli was sent off, and Wright says the ability to grind out results will hold them in good stead:

“Arsenal are in a place where a lot of people didn’t think they would be. When the season started, with the signings that Arsenal made, people were saying things like, ‘He’s a waste of money! Why have they spent so much money on him?!’ And he’s kind of got the team… when you consider how they started, three losses and bottom of the league, and then they started to get it going and the players started to find their feet.”

“Now they’re getting into a situation where other teams are slipping up, they’re starting to find a little bit of form… all Arsenal need to do is continue what they’re doing, nick a few more goals and see if you can stay amongst it.”

With 16 games remaining for Arsenal, there is still a long way to go this season, but they are very much in the mix. West Ham may still sit in the top four, but they have played two games more despite only being one point ahead.

Tottenham’s defeat to Southampton midweek means they are now three points behind the Gunners, with just one match in hand, while Manchester United are level on points with Arteta’s men having already played one more game. The battle for Champions League qualification is likely to go down to the wire.
