“I Was Really Impressed” Shearer Singles Out Arsenal Ace For Praise After Liverpool Win

Alan Shearer says the composure that Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson showed when slotting away the Gunners’ winning goal against Liverpool was very impressive.

The BBC pundit felt the 20-year-old was very calm in scoring when under pressure in the 2-1 win versus the Reds last night:

“I was really impressed, there was no panic at all from someone so young. He won’t have been in that position many times, but he doesn’t panic, he takes a touch with his left foot and sticks it away with the right.”

“He is under pressure, he hasn’t really got that much time to think about it, which probably helped him.”

Nelson has had to wait for his chances since the restart but with the squad being rotated ahead of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, he was handed a start by head coach Mikel Arteta.

The winger actually started the Spaniard’s first two games in charge against Bournemouth and Chelsea, but he has, more often than not, had to settle for a place on the bench. Arsenal will play Watford in their last game of the season while Chelsea will face Liverpool in the League before ending their season vs Wolves with so much still to be decided at both ends of the table. These games all happen before Arsenal play Chelsea in the FA Cup final and it will be interesting to see which games Nelson plays in for the Gunners.

With Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also competing for places in the front three, Nelson does have his work cut out to keep his place in the starting eleven ahead of the clash against City this weekend.
