“He Is Back!” Shearer Hails 25 Year Old’s Performance And Claims Arsenal’s Patience Has Paid Off

BBC pundit Alan Shearer has praised Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus after his display in the 4-1 win over Leeds on Saturday.

The 25-year-old had spent a few months on the sidelines as he recovered from knee surgery but Shearer believes the fact that the Gunners did not rush the forward back into action too quickly is now being rewarded:

“11 games, without a goal, before the World Cup for Jesus. But he is back. They have had to be patient with him because of his injury. That certainly worked because he looked very sharp.”

“He perhaps should have scored his hat-trick because this was a good chance he could have put into the back of the net (header over the bar). He gets himself in between the two defenders there.”

“He did really well here (winning the penalty). He could have gone down in the first challenge from Kristensen. He actually connects with him, but he stays up. (Then is fouled by Luke Ayling) which is absolutely the right decision. He then gets up, he has the confidence to stick it straight down the middle.”

There is no doubt that Mikel Arteta’s side have missed Jesus, even though they have coped admirably without him since the start of the year.

After the Brazilian returned against Fulham last month, they managed his workload to ensure he didn’t suffer a recurrence of the injury, and their patience seems to have paid off, based on the performance versus Leeds.

Having Jesus fit and firing for the run-in could be the shot in the arm that Arsenal need to get over the line and secure their first Premier League title in twenty years.
